In the wake of his victory over Kamala Harris and before his inauguration on January 20, Donald Trump is already beginning to sketch out the contours of his next term. On Sunday, the president-elect announced the return of Tom Homan, a hardliner, to head the agency responsible for border control and immigration.immigration (ICE).
“I am pleased to announce that former ICE director and border control stalwart Tom Homan will join the Trump administration where he will be in charge of our nation’s borders (“The Border Czar”),” the Republican wrote on his Truth Social network.
Violent comments against migrants
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there’s no one better than him to monitor and control our borders,” Donald Trump continued, asserting that the new ICE director will be in charge of “all deportations of illegal aliens to their home countries”.
The 78-year-old president-elect has pledged to launch, on his first day in office, the largest deportation operation of illegal migrants in the history of the United States. During his campaign, he repeatedly railed against illegal immigrants, who he said were “poisoning the blood” of his country, and promised to reinstate a policy of separating families at the border.

Thomas Homan had already headed ICE during Donald Trump’s previous term (2017-2021). Under this first Trump presidency, nearly 4,000 migrant children had been separated from their parents, placed in detention.
