“You think it’s absurd? We do too” “Where do we take them?” That’s what you can read on the facade of the town hall of Bordeaux since Monday, in reaction to the budget cuts announced in the 2025 Finance Bill.
The city would have to cope with 16.5 million euros less. “We refuse to raise taxes or lower our ecological and social ambitions. The government must change its finance bill without delay”, reacted the ecologist mayor Pierre Hurmic on X. He calls for the bill to be “amended without delay”.
Reminder of the “principle of neutrality of public services
The Prefect of Gironde, Étienne Guyot, took a few days to send a letter to the elected representative on Friday, reminding him of the Conseil d’Etat ruling of July 27, 2005, which states that “the principle of neutrality of public services precludes the display on public buildings of signs symbolizing political, religious or philosophical opinions”.
He asks that these displays be removed, failing which legal action will be taken on behalf of the State.
