An elderly paraprofessional was arrested for allegedly shoving a teen student inside a Brooklyn public school on Monday, law enforcement sources said.
Luis Benalcazar, 75, is accused of pushing a 14-year-old student inside P.S. 373, also known as Brooklyn Transition Center, on Ellery Street near Throop Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, according to the sources.
Benalcazar was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, cops said.
The injured student was treated at the scene, sources said.
“This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable,” city Department of Education spokeswoman Jenna Lyle said in a statement. “This employee has been suspended pending the outcome of the arrest, and if convicted, we will pursue their termination. There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our students.”
