The World Health Organization finally leads its agreement after more than three years of negotiations. This Wednesday, the member countries approved by consensus a historical text aimed at better preparation and fight against future pandemics.
“Tonight marks an important step in our common trip to a safer world,” said the CEO of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to the delegates. “You have written the story” with this draft agreement that will be examined in the next World Health Assembly in May.
“Multilateralism is very lively”
He took a last day and negotiation night, before the whole text was validated. “We surpassed at 1:58 am,” said a delegate, while the WHO prepared champagne. This shows “that multilateralism is alive,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
