After 19 years in a prison in Indonesia, Serge Atlaoui, French sentenced to drug trafficking, left Indonesia this Tuesday, February 4, 2025. His return to France marks the end of a long legal and human fight, carried by his relatives and many abolitionist organizations.
The repatriation of Serge Atlaoui was possible thanks to an agreement concluded between France and Indonesia, signed on January 24 by the Ministers of Justice of the two countries. This performance was justified for humanitarian reasons, the health status of the prisoner that requires regular medical monitoring. Escorted by three French police, he took a flight to Paris, where he was expected this Wednesday, February 5. Upon arrival at Roissy airport, he will be presented to a prosecutor at the Bobigny court before being transferred to a penitentiary establishment.
