The world of bubbles is in mourning: The designer and author of comic strip French Christian Godard, creator of Norbert and Kari and Martin Milanis deceased at his home in Paris at the age of 92, his relatives announced on Monday November 11, 2024, in a message published on his website.
“For more than a year, he had been courageously battling a cancer and he fell asleep forever, at home in Parisclose to his family,” they added.
René Goscinny’s illustrator
Born in Paris on March 24, 1932, Christian Godard made his debut under the pseudonym Ème in the early 1950s in illustrated periodicals such as Coq hardi, before publishing under his own name “in all youth magazines”, from Pilote à Pif Mag via Tintin and SpirouFrom the 1960s to the present day”, says the website.
Designer of René Goscinny (for Lili Mannequin, Jacquot the Moss etc.) for a dozen years, he met with success with Norbert and Karia series launched in Pilote in 1963, in which he explored the friendship between a Polynesian and a Parisian who had decided to flee the capital. He did it again with Martin Milanhis other most personal series, about the adventures of an altruistic airplane-taxi pilot, launched in 1967 in Tintin.
As a scriptwriter, Christian Godard had also signed The Mad Jungle with French cartoonist Mic Delinx. Then, in the 1970s, Le vagabond des limbesseries of science fiction illustrated by Spaniard Julio Riberawith whom he set up a publishing house in 1988, Le vaisseau d’argent, which closed in 1991.
With more than 230 albums to his credit, this multi-talented author had also written novelsand partssketches or even scripts for television. He will be buried on Thursday 14 November 2024 at the Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis).
