Univer Note, a application totally unknown until a few days ago, has managed to become number 1 in the App Store. It has beaten ChatGPTTelegram and Instagram, the free applications that have traditionally been on the podium of the most-installed programs on iPhone and iPad in France, reports Libération.
What’s the secret behind Univer Note? It’s billed as being able to “write down a variety of things, from everyday tasks to the trivial things in life”. But this application actually hides a streaming illegal, indicates Le Parisien.
Disney+, Amazon Prime, Netflix…
Yet the comments don’t reveal the program’s true function. “It’s very handy for making a to-do list,” one reads. “I write down everything I need: shopping lists, texts… Frankly, it’s perfect”, writes one user. But once you’ve installed the application on your iPhoneWith the iPhone, it’s no longer a matter of taking notes, but more of a popcorn party.
Univer Note offers a wide catalog of free streaming movies and series. The content comes from legal streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Amazon Prime, Netflix or even Apple TV. Advertisements are omnipresent. This ensures revenue for developers. After installation, the application asks for permission to “track your activities in apps and on other companies’ websites”, enabling ad targeting.
App removed
Launched in early September, Univer Note owes its success to word-of-mouth and promotion on TikTok or Youtube. The developer calls himself “Richmond Zapp”. Tracing the application’s Discord server, it appears that he lives in the Paris region. Contacted by Libération, he declined to reply. Apple also failed to respond when asked about the process of validating such an application on the App Store.
According to NumeramaApple was able to validate a first version of the application in line with its description, before it was updated and turned into an illegal streaming platform. At around 7 p.m. on Monday, Apple removed Univer Note from its catalog. But the application could reappear in another form. At least, that’s what its creator has promised. The version Android is not available on Google Play.
